Afghanistan-US Mr.
Siddiq Barmak, Afghan filmmaker and director of Osama, will travel to the United
States, visiting sites from the White House to Hollywood. Travelogue documentation
will capture Barmak's impressions and insights about the U.S. as well as Afghanistan
from his point of view.
As a filmmaker, Barmak was forced into exile in
Pakistan during the Taliban's rule and now, again active in filmmaking, heads
the Afghan Children's Education Movement dedicated to the promotion of literacy,
arts and culture for Afghan children.
In Fremont, California, Mr. Barmak
will conduct a workshop with Afghan-American youth in the Bay area's "little Afghanistan."
Mr. Barmak still remembers, with tears in his eyes, when the Taliban burnt the
Afghan film archives, which included masterpieces by André Tarkovsky. |
